This course will help pharmacists and compounding technicians understand how to ensure compliance with compounding practice standards. Attendees will learn about the principles of quality assurance and how this can benefit business and professional practice. Proposed changes to compounding practice standards will be discussed.
Attendees will learn how to identify risk relating to compounding activities and strategies to minimize that risk. With the increasing scrutiny of compounding practices, PCCA members need to ensure that they are operating at the highest standards and understand how this can be used to grow a compounding practice.

Be able to conduct a risk assessment of compounding activities
Be familiar with strategies to improve quality and reduce risk from compounding activities
Understand how improving compounding standards will benefit a pharmacy compounding business
Speakers
Jenny Giam BPharm (Hons) MPS MACP. Since graduating in 1981, Jenny has worked in formulation development and software quality assurance inthe pharmaceutical industry, and in independent community pharmacy as anemployed pharmacist and a pharmacy owner. As the Technical & Training Manager for PCCA since 2001 she is responsible for supporting and training compounding pharmacists and their staff in contemporary compounding techniques and clinical applications for compounding. She is also the Secretary of the Australasian Compounders Association established in 2007. Jenny was appointed as a member of the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration Technical Working Group responsible for developing compounding standards for larger scale compounding pharmacies in 2007 and is a reviewer of the compounding relevant sections of the current Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook. She is also a member of the Expert Advisory Group appointed by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia to review the compounding practice standards for Australian pharmacists. As a part time PhD candidate in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, Jenny is investigating the quality use of compounded medicines in community pharmacy.
Marina Holt BPharm MPS AACNEM, has been employed as the Business Development Manager (Education) since August 2006. Marina has over 25 years of experience in community pharmacy and has practiced in both Sydney and regional New South Wales. Immediately prior to joining PCCA, Marina spent three years working as a compounding pharmacist in Sydney's southern suburbs. As well as providing technical support for members, Marina conducts training classes for technicians, as well asproviding hands on training and lectures for University of Newcastle students as part of their pharmaceutics course. Marina is also actively involved inteaching the Introduction to Veterinary Compounding on-line course to students from Australia, the US and Canada.
Nazmy Salib, BSc (Hons) MSc (Chem), MRACI, has been employed as the Quality Assurance Manager for Professional Compounding Chemistsof Australia (PCCA) since 2004 and is responsible for the effective management and implementation of the Company Quality System to ensure compliance to the Australian code of Good Manufacturing Practice. Nazmy has more than 25 years management experience in the pharmaceutical industry with solid expertise and ability to develop and implement systems for the development, regulatory compliance, quality assurance and quality control of pharmaceutical products. Nazmy has also successfully developed and implemented quality management system for ISO 9001 Standard certification and successfully passed many training courses in Total Quality Management, Continuous Quality Improvement and Occupational Health & Safety throughout his career. Nazmy has also been invited to represent the industry on various technical & standardcommittees with the Australian Self Medication Industry (ASMI), Complementary Health Council of Australia and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).
